There are two primary ways in which you can save more money.

One way is to make more money. You can try to increase your income at your current job through working extra hours or seeking a pay raise or alternatively get a part time job.

The other way is to cut down on your spending. Even though you are living a simple lifestyle, there are probably areas where you can decrease your cost. Try tracking your spending for a few months and review areas where you can cut back on e.g. If you eat out a lot, try eating more at home or bring your lunch to work.

Making extra money and cutting spending are really the two paths available to your goal.

However “saving money” is a habit that you must developed over time. Leslie and I recommend starting the habit by putting money into a savings jar, piggy bank, or actual bank every time you receive money. And by every time we mean every time!

You have likely heard of paying yourself first and that the magic number is 10%. The reality for those who are just starting out is that putting aside 10% of what you earn today can be overwhelming especially when you life is already requiring 100% of your pay check. The trick is to start with something and develop the habit of putting something into your “savings jar” every time.

Our challenge to you is to get a jar, label it “savings” and start putting money in it. We recommend a daily routine of depositing money into your savings jar. The $ amount you start with is inconsequential. The important this is that you are developing the habit of saving money. Habits are created in 30 days. So get started today and see how much you’ve deposited at the end of 30 days. Our guess is that you’ll be impressed and want to see how much more you can set aside in the months and years to come.

    To your success!
